Nuff Backside
I had quite an interesting view on my way to work this morning. It was something I had seen before but didn't really understand and can only be related to by the viewer.
There were two women both in there early 20's, stark naked, fighting in the middle of the road. Traffic was stopped in either direction to peruse the spectacle that was unfolding before their eyes. Now most hot blooded men will relish the idea of what is commonly known as a "cat fight". It has been the feature entertainment at several night spots both now and in the past.
The women were obviously really mad at each other for some unknown reason. What I could not understand was why naked?
Then I recalled what a co-worker had pointed out some time ago. The reason that they were naked is that when they fight, they strip down to birthday suit so that the other party has nothing to hold on to in the fight. Who would have thought that reasoning went that far in the heat of battle. Our people have some serious practices though.
The fracass didn't last very long and subsided with a tracing match and both women being pulled in opposite directions by the gathering crowd.
When all is said and done, how does one retain personal dignity after such a public show or does it not matter to them?

Well, I'd buy the argument about having no clothes for the other party to hold on to, except I remember some years ago we had an expression - well i guess the verb would be 'to tear out one's batty' - remember that one?
Well, one hazy afternoon on my way home from work, I was driving through the Liguanea area, and had the distinct 'pleasure' of witnessing this exprression being enacted!
The woman literally stripped down, spun around to show the 'enemy' her rear, bent over and.... well, Scratchie, there's no other way to describe it - she 'tore out her batty' at the 'lady' for want of a better word! I cannot appropriately describe my shock and horror in the English language!
I have to be honest and tell you that I really believe its all symbolic of the absolute breakdown of our society, and in particular of the average Jamaican's sense of dignity and self-respect. They appear to actually aspire to behaviour that further degrades them as a person and the nation as a people!
Anyway, your two ladies must have just watched Bushie on the tele and decided to treat the passing motorists to a little 'Shock and Awe" this morning - what can i tell you!!! :)

Scratchie, mightn't they have been insane? That kinda behaviour usually characterizes an unsound mind. Nuff mad people a walk 'round every day like normal, until . . .
Seven, madness going on long time nuh true? Abeni "Good" is in the eyes of the beholder. They had decent face and shape an ting but behaviour detract from that totally.
Melody, No mi dear. My co-worker who was a few cars in front said that the argument was about man business. He saw the fighting actually start. They stripped down right on the roadside. I understand that it is common behaviour in our inner city communities.
wow. i remember growing up I used to hear about fellas who would strip down ad grease up with vaseline before they go out at night stealing in the neighbourhood. That was so if they got caught it would be difficult to get ahold of them.
